Below are some suggestions from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) on how to improve glass door and window security.

Protect glass in doors with polycarbonate

According to the Portland Police Bureau, if you don’t protect the glass in your doors, intruders can break the glass anywhere within 40 inches of a lock, reach in, and unlock the door from the inside to gain entry.

You may think that you could solve this problem by installing keyed or access-controlled locks on the insides of doors, but this is not recommended because it makes it difficult to evacuate during emergencies.

Instead, the PPB recommends installing polycarbonate plastic attached to the door frame covering glass in doors. This is a perfect example of how ArmorPlast® can be used to prevent forced entry by retrofitting it over any glass panes in your property’s doors.

Of course, you should also make sure all other reachable windows are protected by polycarbonate as well.

Install flood lights
