What Security Threats
Data Centers Face

Data centers face critical threats including forced entry, coordinated intrusion, vandalism, and attacks that put sensitive data, uptime, and business continuity at risk.

Data centers are the backbone of modern business, cloud services, and critical infrastructure, which makes them high value targets for physical attacks and disruption. Traditional physical security measures often overlook one of the most vulnerable parts of the building envelope: standard glass doors, sidelites, and windows around entrances, lobbies, and critical support areas. Data centers face a range of physical threats that can quickly turn into costly outages, data loss, or reputational damage. The most common risks include:

  • Forced entry and smash‑and‑grab attacks through glass to reach secure hardware or assets.
  • Coordinated tool‑based intrusions using repeated impact on perimeter doors, lobby glass, or loading docks.
  • Insider or contractor‑assisted breaches exploiting weak glazing or secondary entrances to bypass main access controls.
  • Civil unrest, rioting, or vandalism where exterior glass is targeted and becomes a critical failure point.
  • Environmental impacts such as flying debris, accidental collisions, or nearby blasts that shatter glass into sensitive areas.

For data centers operating on a defense‑in‑depth model, unprotected glass undermines perimeter, access control, and monitoring investments by giving attackers a fast, low‑tech path inside. Security glazing that resists forced entry and, where needed, ballistic threats helps delay or completely deny intrusion, creating valuable response time for security teams and law enforcement.

How we are different

Riot Glass is engineered to fortify existing fenestration, so data centers can significantly upgrade physical security without a major rebuild or extended downtime. Our patented retrofit framing systems and security glazing panels are designed to mount over or into most existing window and door frames, preserving the appearance of your facility while dramatically increasing resistance to attack.

 • Systems tested to withstand prolonged, repeated attacks with heavy tools.
• Crystal‑clear visibility and low‑profile framing that maintain a professional, discreet look rather than creating a hardened “bunker” aesthetic.
• Retrofit systems that minimize disruption to live facilities, helping maintain uptime and continuity during installation.

Unlike temporary barriers or visible security hardware that can negatively impact operations and branding, Riot Glass integrates seamlessly into the building envelope as a permanent upgrade to the weakest parts of your physical security stack. Our team helps you align glazing upgrades with your broader defense‑in‑depth strategy so that doors, windows, and lobbies support your access control, surveillance, and incident‑response capabilities.

Guard Precious Computing Materials with Security Glass for Data Centers

Why Riot Glass for Data Centers

We provide rigid, no-breach barriers that keep intruders from accessing critical infrastructure through doors and windows, even under sustained, aggressive attack attempts.

Its forced entry and ballistic-resistant glazing shields can be retrofitted over existing glass using specialized framing adapters, so facilities can harden their perimeter without a disruptive rebuild or a change to the building’s exterior appearance.

Because Riot Glass is tested to strict UL forced entry and ballistic standards, it gives data centers an auditable layer of physical security that supports compliance with common security frameworks and customer due diligence requirements. The glazing shields are also engineered to resist burglary, smash-and-grab attacks, and rioting.

what we offer

Forced Entry Resistance
Ballistic Resistant Security Glazing
Tailored Security Solutions

Forced Entry Resistance for Data Centers

Retrofit glazing installs over existing glass to prevent or significantly delay intruders, even under sustained attack with heavy tools.

Ballistic Resistant Security Glazing

Bullet-resistant shields are great for higher‑risk points such as main lobbies, security control rooms, and executive or network operations areas.

Tailored Security Solutions

Riot Glass provides a full suite of security glazing solutions tailored to the unique risks and operational requirements of data centers. We work with facility owners, security integrators, and design teams to match threat level, code requirements, and budget with the right glazing systems for each opening.

Every project begins with a site‑specific assessment to understand your current envelope, risk profile, and operational constraints. From there, we design a tailored solution that reinforces your data center’s most vulnerable glass openings, supports your uptime requirements, and fits seamlessly into your overall physical security plan.

Frequently Asked questions

What sizes are available?
Select Riot Glass® (RG-Series) makeups can be made in oversize versions up to 128" x 300". RG Series and ArmorPlast® (AP-Series) products that feature our polycarbonates are limited to 72" x 120". If window openings exceed that size, we simply reconfigure the mullions using our AP-Series support mullions specifically designed to accommodate our Universal Framing System (UFS).
Will it look like my existing glass?
The RG-Series and AP-Series all look like regular glass. Depending on the thickness, visual acuity can be slightly affected, but overall you won’t see a distinguishable difference. Yellowing is not a concern and is covered by the warranty. For added safety, both series allow police and patrol services to see inside your property. Privacy tints are available as an option in most Riot Glass products.
How do I clean and care for security glass?
Traditional cleaning methods work on all types of RG-Series and AP-Series. All of our security glass products have a protective outer layer to avoid scratching and marring. The process is similar to caring for a new car. You put it through all kinds of paces every day, but you do so with care and attention to detail. Treat security glass the way you would the finish on a fine automobile and you’ll enjoy years of trouble-free service. Always follow the cleaning instructions that come with your Riot Glass purchases for optimal product longevity.
What is the warranty on the glass and framing?
Warranties vary by product and can also change depending on the application. Your Riot Glass security specialist will provide details on both warranty coverage and life expectancy for your specific product needs.
How do I know it will work?
All of our products have been thoroughly tested in highly accredited laboratory settings and, more importantly, in real-world situations. While there are no ironclad guarantees, every retail store, commercial building, and school needs some level of security glass protection. Security glazing products are designed to delay and deter, and in many cases are the determining factor between life and death.
What happens during a site inspection?
Our security specialists will do a complete threat assessment, discuss your goals, and provide a detailed, easy-to-read proposal. We will also measure your windows and frames, then evaluate the overall condition and retrofit adaptability to determine the best solution for your property.
Do I need to remove signage and graphics?
It depends on which product you select and where the graphics are displayed. During the site inspection, our expert security consultant will advise whether graphics must be removed and replaced or stay intact.
What is UL 752? What’s the difference between ballistic and non-ballistic ratings?
Underwriters Laboratories™ offers multiple ballistic rating levels. Designed to measure bullet resistance, ballistic ratings factor in the grain (weight), caliber, and velocity of the ammunition. Non-ballistic (containment grade) products allow bullet penetration, but won’t break down or appreciably diminish in strength. In other words, the bullets leave holes, but the panels remain intact, keeping intruders out of the building.
