How To Achieve a Virtually Unbreakable Door with Riot Glass®

Written By: Brad CampbellNovember 1, 2023

Glass entryway doors are one of the most vulnerable potential entry points for forced entry into businesses and commercial facilities of all types.

All it takes is a blow or two with a claw hammer, a sledgehammer, a pry bar, or another heavy object, and a traditional annealed glass or even a tempered glass door easily shatters, allowing the intruders to open the door from the inside or step right in through the broken glass.

That’s why all commercial property owners should consider a Riot Glass unbreakable door conversion.

This glass entryway door conversion unit is capable of preventing even the most determined would-be intruders from gaining entry — it protects businesses from financial loss due to burglary, smash-and-grab theft, and rioting and looting, and safeguards the well-being of building occupants in the event of an active threat scenario.

How a Riot Glass Unbreakable Door Conversion Works

Riot Glass unbreakable door conversion units consist of two main components: ArmorPlast® Gen II Series door conversion framing and ArmorPlast AP75 bullet-resistant security glazing panels (UL 752 Level 1 ballistic resistant rating).

ArmorPlast Gen II Series security framing employs a proprietary system of shock gaskets that, when combined with forced entry-resistant ArmorPlast glazing infills, are incredibly efficient at withstanding repeated impacts during forced entry attempts.

These shock gaskets allow more unrestricted movement of the security glazing infills during an attack, which disperses the force of blows evenly towards the edges of the glazing, minimizing weakening effects.

Gen II series framing is optimized for 1/4”, ⅜”, and 3/4” ArmorPlast security glazing infills. We often recommend using ArmorPlast AP75, as this provides both forced entry and ballistic protection.

ArmorPlast AP75 panels have a UL 752 Level 1 ballistic resistance rating, meaning they can stop several 124-grain Full Metal Copper Jacket (with lead) rounds from a 9mm handgun.

Combining ArmorPlast AP75 with ArmorPlast Gen II Series door conversion framing results in a virtually indestructible forced entry- and bullet-resistant commercial glass entryway door unit that can withstand prolonged, violent attacks.

In fact, the AP75 unbreakable door conversion infill units have even passed the rigorous ASTM F3038 forced entry resistance testing protocol, one of the most difficult forced entry testing methods in existence.

Even if riddled with bullets, the UL 752 Level 1 glass will not break apart or significantly diminish in strength — it remains a barrier to forced entry that prevents attackers from passing any part of their body through, keeping them out until they move on or until the authorities arrive.

In an active threat scenario, this access denial can save lives by allowing building occupants to react by running, hiding, and barricading themselves inside until the threat is neutralized.

This combination of forced entry and active threat mitigations makes a Riot Glass unbreakable door conversion one of the best investments for commercial building and business owners looking for ways to protect their property and people from a full range of security threats.

A Riot Glass unbreakable door conversion unit can be implemented in almost any existing glass entryway, including those in:

  • Schools
  • Government facilities
  • Banks
  • Offices
  • Hospitals
  • Religious buildings
  • High-end and specialty retailers
  • Hospitality businesses
  • Other high-risk businesses
