If you’re a member of the AIA (American Institute of Architects), you may be wondering what the Continuing Education Unit (CEU) requirements are for 2024. With only a few months left in the year, now’s the time to ensure you understand what they are and make up any credits you’re missing!

As with past years, AIA members are required to complete 18 Learning Units (LUs) of continuing education in 2024. Of these, at least 12 LUs must be in Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) topics. One hour of continuing education equals one LU.
New members or those who upgraded from Associate status within the year are exempt from these requirements for that calendar year, starting their requirements on January 1 of the following year.
Additionally, Associate and Allied members are encouraged but not required to complete these continuing education requirements, while Emeritus Architect members must complete 1 LU annually.
Failure to meet these requirements by December 31 each year results in non-compliance, but members are given a nine-month grace period until September 30 of the following year to complete and report their required credits. If credits are earned during this period, they will apply to the previous year's deficit.
Note that these requirements apply to all AIA members, regardless of their location.
