Riot Glass® retrofit systems consist of custom-made security glass and framing designs that provide maximum protection against hurricane & wind storm.
Hurricane windows are a special type of impact-resistant windows designed to mitigate hurricane and windstorm damage. They do this by effectively dispersing the force of the impact to keep your glass intact.
These storm windows are designed to protect your existing glass from impacts from flying storm debris and whatever else a hurricane or windstorm throws at them. Hurricane glazing panels can also be installed over glass components of doors to reinforce them.
There are many different products out there that are marketed as “hurricane windows,” but not all of them are truly strong enough to stand up to real hurricane-force winds. It’s important to know what to look for when you’re in the market for new storm doors and windows.
For the highest level of hurricane window protection, you want to install glass-like glazing shields made of polycarbonate, a material that offers the appearance of glass along with virtually unbreakable strength.
Polycarbonate is much more effective at mitigating storm damage than any other type of reinforced or impact-resistant glass out there.
When regular glass gets impacted by a piece of debris hurled by winds of up to 156 miles per hour or stronger, it instantly shatters into sharp, jagged pieces. Besides the fact that you now have a broken window to replace, there are several other major concerns.
For starters, anyone sheltering inside your property is at risk of being injured by the shards of broken glass flying dangerously inwards, or by the piece of storm debris itself.
Once a pane of glass is broken in a window or door, your property is exposed and at risk of even more damage.
The strong rains that come along with hurricanes and windstorms can cause flooding and water damage inside your property. Also, the high-force winds that enter through a breached window or door can cause serious internal and structural damage, and can even tear a roof off.
When you reinforce your glass doors and windows with hurricane windows, you’re mitigating all these potential problems by protecting the people inside and keeping rain and wind out.
Traditional methods of hurricane window protection include board-ups, storm panels, and hurricane shutters. These do complete the goal of protecting your existing glass from high-force impacts, but in many cases, they are unsightly and inconvenient options.
Board ups require you to pre-cut, store, and manually install plywood boards whenever a hurricane or windstorm is on the way. This might not be a big deal for small properties, but large commercial facilities and storefronts are going to have a hard time with it.
Storm panels are basically the commercial version of plywood boards but are typically made of corrugated plastic or metal instead. You still have to store them and bolt them to the side of your property before a storm hits.
Hurricane shutters are the most convenient and effective choice out of the traditional hurricane window protection solutions, but they don’t work for all types of properties and still require you to lower and lock them into place for them to work.
Riot Glass® hurricane windows are made from incredibly impact-resistant polycarbonate. It is a hurricane shutter and storm panel alternative that can be overglazed (mounted outside of) the existing glass on your windows and doors to provide 24/7 storm damage mitigation.
Once you install Riot Glass®, you can rest easy knowing that your business or commercial property is safe from flying storm debris and the catastrophic damage that it can lead to.
Riot Glass® creates a permanent hurricane damage mitigation barrier that doesn’t require you to replace your existing windows, doors, or framing.
It can be retrofitted right into or onto almost any existing framing system, and you don’t have to put it in place and remove it as storms come and go.
Think of Riot Glass® glazing shields as virtually invisible polycarbonate storm panels. You won’t even notice it's there and it will provide a long service life, even after weathering the harshest of storms.
Riot Glass® is an ideal solution when you’re looking to install hurricane windows on any type of commercial property. Our clients include schools, government buildings, high-end retail stores, large office buildings and campuses, and more.
Besides the need to install and remove traditional hurricane window protection solutions like boards, panels, and shutters, there’s another downside they share.
All these options block out natural light and prevent people from seeing in and out through your glass doors and windows. This can be a particularly big problem for glass office buildings and storefronts. However, with Riot Glass®, these issues are nonexistent.
Our hurricane windows are completely transparent, virtually invisible, and function just like traditional window glass. You and your employees can still enjoy full outdoor visibility and receive natural light during the day.
The appearance of your property won’t noticeably change from the outside, so it doesn’t lose its curb appeal or appear closed, to potential clients and customers while you’re waiting to see if a storm hits.
